The Abound in the pictures is the same Abound that was in the accident with me. Now for the cherry on the top of this review. ANY of my other bikes would have been DESTROYED and I would've been thrown from the bike with a more direct impact. Between design and strength, the bike allowed me to be in the only position to walk away from this crash. In addition, the 90 lbs bike and it's hefty frame soaked up the rest of the force. I was able to roll off the bike onto the cars hood and absorb much of the force across the entire length of my body. how did the my Abound save me? As I've watch the video and replayed the seconds in my mind and concluded the Abound's upright step through design prevented me from being pinned between the car and the bike. All who saw the video were stunned that I was standing before them with no more than an aching head. The car was accelerating up towards 30 mph. Later I saw the video from the traffic camera. Neighbors, passerby's and the driver of the car who hit me all surrounded me offering assistance. One look at my cracked bike helmet told me I was probably concussed. Amazingly I found myself quickly back on my feet without any obvious injuries except for a growing dull ache in the back of my head. To my shock an oncoming vehicle was making a turn right into me! There was no hope of avoiding the impact. I had a solid green light and proceeded through. I was cruising along at 17 mph and entered an intersection with traffic signals. On November 17th, I was biking to a nearby Hospital where I volunteer. On calm days, seated high I actually see my surroundings better and enjoy the views I've seen thousands of times, but now without gasping for air and "screaming at my legs to SHUT UP".įinally, I can literally attest the Aventon Abound kept me from serious harm, maybe saved my life. No aching neck, no stiff shoulders, no cranky lower back from hours hunched over the bars. It was joyful, not painful! It took a little time to adjust to the upright sitting posture, but it's so relaxing. I clicked up to Tour Mode and I had to wonder what happened to the head wind. This morning I rode to work into a 15-20 mph head wind. The Abound has handled it all.īeyond versatility, the bike is a blast to ride. Finally add an adjustable bottle holder and Bar Mitts (it's cold in Wisconsin) and the bike is perfect for any condition from 90F - down to 20F. The front will have the Aventon rack paired with a dog Carrier for my trust Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix "BOOM". I'm using a Rock Bros Pannier and two steel milk crates on my back rack. One can chose from Aventon's wonderful accessories (hoping for a hard to find front bike rack for Christmas- please please Santa (LOL)) to aftermarket bags or panniers or whatever your imagination can dream up. The beauty of the Abound is the endless possibilities for out fitting the bike. I also replaced many small car trips to nearby stores to fetch groceries, home supplies, beverages, and on and on and on. I bike on busy two and four lane city streets some with bike lanes some without, some with nice wide shoulders, some with a badly painted stripe separating a ditch from cracked asphalt. The ride is 8.5 miles one way through the small communities of the Fox Cities in Northeast Wisconsin. Primarily I use it to commute to and from work. And that is how I found myself rolling my new bike out of the garage into the Summer sunlight. I quickly reduce my choices to three Cargo Bikes and the Aventon Abound won out easily based on price vs capabilities and features. But I couldn't just change out one bike for an e-bike. Their passion for biking was rekindled and I saw in their faces the simple pleasure of peddling a bike - not the grimace of a hard ridden 2 hour road ride. In the last year I saw many of my riding friends switch over to e-bikes for a variety of reasons. Until two years ago I scoffed at the notion of an e-bike. Road, Hybrid, Fat Tire and Vintage Cruiser bikes are in my garage and all are ridden during the year. I am an avid cyclist riding between 1700 - 2000 miles a year. Some background about me so you know where my opinions come from. Assembly was snappy and within 30 minutes the Abound was ready to ride. I was a kid in a candy store! My Abound arrived. On or about Aug 10th, 2023 a huge box appeared in my driveway.
